Ministers instructed to set up task team for land redistribution

JOHANNESBURG - In response to mounting pressure from housing activists, President Cyril Ramaphosa has directed government ministers to investigate demands for the redistribution of land to communities.

Housing activists wrote an open letter to the President in April, identifying 32 parcels of land in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.

The activists are advocating for the use of the State Land Disposal Act of 1961 to make public land available for housing.

Researcher at the Ndifuna Ukwazi organisation, Noziphiwo Sigwela discussed this with eNCA.
